MBDC and Coty Inc. announced that Calvin Klein fragrances has achieved a Silver level Material Health Certificate (MHC) as part of the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Products Program. The fragrance, CK EVERYONE, has been declared Calvin Klein’s “first clean and environmentally conscious fragrance.”
As part of Cradle to Cradle Certification, the world’s most advanced, science-based standard for designing and making products for the Circular Economy, MBDC and Nous Sommes Le Futur founder David Amar collaborated with Coty on optimizing and verifying their product chemistries for human and environmental health. The MHC offers a solution to growing industry and consumer interest in transparency around products’ chemical makeup across supply chains.
Achieving Silver level Material Health indicates that 100% of the chemical substances in CK Everyone are free from carcinogens, mutagens or reproductive toxicants. This accomplishment will serve as Coty’s foundation of a material health optimization strategy for further improving the human and environmental safety of the fragrance over time.
“We are proud of Coty’s first Cradle to Cradle Material Health certificate for CK EVERYONE which demonstrates the positive impact of our Beauty that Lasts platform,” said Simone Cattaneo, President of Luxury Brands at Coty. “The Material Health certificate reinforces Coty’s commitment to its sustainability platform, with the objective of building a better business while making a positive contribution towards societal, ethical and environmental change within the beauty industry.”
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Coty on their first Material Health Certificate for CK EVERYONE,” said Jay Bolus, President of MBDC. “By obtaining a Material Health Certificate, they are communicating their commitment to transparency and that their fragrance is made with safer, healthier materials. Coty is raising the bar for the beauty industry by insisting on product quality based on Cradle to Cradle Design™.”
This is the most recent accomplishment and indication of the fragrance industry transitioning to increased transparency. MBDC is also collaborating with IFF and Henry Rose, which announced the first line of Cradle to Cradle Certified fine fragrances in 2019.
