Amazon announced today the launch of their ‘Climate Pledge Friendly’ badge, which recognizes the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Products Program as a leading certification for sustainable products. Since launching 25 years ago, MBDC and William McDonough have advised hundreds of companies including Benjamin Moore, Calvin Klein, C&A, Gojo/Purell, Herman Miller, International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), L’Oreal, Shaw Industries/Berkshire Hathaway, Steelcase, Stella McCartney, Pendleton, and more, to assess and design materials and products that leave a positive footprint on based on the principles of the 2002 book Cradle to Cradle: Remaking The Way We Make Things.
In addition to being one of the only multi-attribute certifications included in Amazon’s badge, Cradle to Cradle Certified is a robust, science-based, independent program which provides a design framework for manufacturers to use to create safe, healthy products for the Circular Economy. Cradle to Cradle also encourages companies to embrace clean, renewable energy and water while providing creative and dignified lives for every individual across their supply chain.
“Cradle to Cradle certification provides a framework for product optimization based on the principles of designing with safe and healthy materials, using clean renewable energy and water, celebrating diversity, and eliminating the concept of waste,” said McDonough. “We love that Amazon is making it simple for customers to find sustainable products. Amazon’s new program will expand our reach and enable us to empower more brands to deliver safer and more sustainable products for the circular economy.”
