TERESA OLSEN is an environmental chemist at MBDC. Teresa’s responsibilities include chemical and materials analysis, project management, and client consultation. Teresa has a multidisciplinary background in both environmental and medical sciences, adding a unique dimensional perspective to the varied talents of MBDC’s highly skilled technical team.

Teresa began her career as a cardiovascular perfusionist in 1988 with a masters degree in perfusion from Tufts University, and earned her board certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion in 1989. Perfusionists are highly specialized medical professionals who, together with cardiac surgeons and anesthesiologists, play an integral role in all types of cardiovascular surgery.

After working as a perfusionist in the university hospital setting for several years, Teresa entered the degree program in forestry at North Carolina State University in 1996, studying forestry and ecology with the goal of transitioning to a career in the environmental arena.

Teresa’s professional experience includes research project management in the fields of landscape ecology as well as medical clinical research. She is also a professional science writer and editor.
