STEVE BOLTON is Manager of Business Development at MBDC. Steve manages the firm's activities on prospective and active projects for various clients, such as the City of Chicago, Ford Motor Company, Herman Miller, Nike, Republic Windows and Doors, US Air Force, US Environmental Protection Agency, and US Postal Service, along with other confidential clients. His responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop strategic goals for individual projects, prepare project work plans and allocate resources
  • Maintain ongoing communications with clients and their partners and suppliers
  • Complete project tasks, including collecting assessment data and conducting industry research
  • Formulate project reports and white papers
  • Deliver presentations regarding the application of sustainable design within companies
  • Help tailor the cradle-to-cradle vision for clients' external messaging Help create web-based tools to support supply chain data gathering and material assessments

Previously, Steve served as Program Manager of Educational Resources at the national nonprofit organization Second Nature. Steve directed the dissemination of sustainability education materials among and within colleges and universities. He guided a variety of organizational functions, including research and acquisition of educational tools; website and database design for effective information delivery; external collaborations; audience outreach; and service integration for higher education faculty, administrators and staff. He also facilitated organizational planning, managed project implementation and helped deliver training workshops.

Steve's additional experience includes designing educational materials to help citizens understand and utilize sustainable development indicators; collecting and analyzing data on economic development opportunities and land conservation challenges for local governments and nonprofit organizations; drafting public design guidelines to balance community population growth and livability; and coordinating professional development training on environmental and land use management issues.

Steve graduated with a Master of Environmental Management degree in Resource Economics and Policy from the Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences at Duke University; and with a B.S. degree in Environmental Science from the College of William and Mary, with concurrent completion of the requirements for a B.A. degree in Public Policy Analysis. He currently is working toward an M.B.A. degree on a part-time basis.
